Candidates are considered twice a year for inclusion into the department.

Hiring Process

  • Application submitted

  • Written exam

  • Integrity interview

  • Oral Board interview

  • Drug screen

  • Background & driving record check

  • Physical agility test

  • Chiefs Interview

 

**Preference goes to those with current Firefighter Certification, current First Responder or State of Colorado EMT or Paramedic Certifications, Wildland Fire Engine Boss, or the ability to respond on daytime calls during the week.

​​​​​​​​Requirements for Volunteer EMR/EMT/Paramedic Positions

This is a non firefighting position, that responds as an EMS Responder

  • Must be at least 18 years of age prior to applying

  • Must have High School Diploma or GED

  • Must live within 5 miles of Station

  • Successful completion of hiring process

  • Completion of probationary period within 6 months of volunteer hire date

  • Completion of Departments Driver/Operator Program within 12 months from completion of probationary period.

  • Attend a minimum of 36 hours of Medical/Rescue training a year

  • Respond to a minimum of 18% of calls a year

  • Attend Monthly Business Meetings

  • Obtain minimum of First Responder, Healthcare Provider CPR,  FEMA NIMS IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800 within first 12 months if not already certified.

Requirements for Volunteer Inspector/Investigator

  • Must be at least 21 years of age prior to applying

  • Must have High School Diploma or GED

  • Successful completion of volunteer hiring process

  • Work a minimum of 12-20 hours a Month depending on position

  • ​Training Requirements will vary depending on qualification

     

    Currently possess current Fire Inspector 1 or higher Certification (or obtain within 6 months) and/or Certified Fire Investigator

 

The Volunteer Fire Inspectors will report directly to the Fire Chief under the Fire Prevention Division and assist with New Construction Plan Review and Inspections, Annual Fire Inspections of Businesses, and pre-plans of Businesses within the Fire District.

 

The Volunteer Fire Investigators will report directly to the Fire Chief under the Fire Prevention Division and will be required to join the Boulder County Multi Agency Fire Investigation Team. Investigators will be responsible to Lead and/or Assist with Investigations within the Hygiene Fire District, as well as be available for County M.A.F.I.T. call outs.

 

For those Inspectors/Investigators that have Certifications in Firefighting and Medical,additional responsibilities will include response to emergency calls.
